"The fish were and still are of the highest quality – note, Halliday and Lloyd, a local concern, whose smoked salmon in recent years has been voted the best in the world." ~ StCyrus.net

Adding drama to the beach of St. Cyrus,
 like a theatrical backdrop,
imposing cliffs overlook an old cemetery known as...

where a church stood from 1242...
until a new church was built in 1632,
overlooking the beach from the cliffs above.

St. Cyrus has quite the history,
with signs of its salmon fishing past...
still evident on the beach...
and near the cemetery...
where pieces of its yearly ritual remain...
along with further explanation inside the park office as to
how this intricate net system was designed and assembled each year for a few months of fishing.
Smoking the salmon provides food for the rest of the year.
Perfect example of the phrase,
"Necessity is the mother of invention."

I have to admit,
the salmon here is amazing anyway you prepare it.
Hop on over to Whiffs for my favorite recipe at the moment.

Happy Thursday.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Infinite

Walking on the beach at St. Cyrus under the massive blue sky...
with cotton ball clouds to the south...
a porthole seemed to open wide for an infinite peak at the heavens.
It was quite extraordinary...
and combined with the path from the beach...
the sand, the flowers and the heavens...
all had a moment of serendipity.

Don't you just love those serendipitous moments in life?

Have a wonderful Wednesday.

"Marram whispers secrets over time blown sands, Colour dusted wings dance over flowers of memory Lark silvery notes soar above sea rhythmic sighs Wind woven sounds singing the song of St Cyrus." ~ Lesley Harley, Montrose

Exploring Scotland and sunny days go well together.

Our most recent excursion took us to...
one of Scotland's forty seven National Nature Reserves.
Ironically enough,
we were there exactly one year...
after the 50th birthday celebration of its NNR status.

The local St. Cyrus school held a poetry writing contest in honor of the special time and the winning poem was engraved on the stone monolith,
with a time capsule prepared by the students buried nearby.

Peaceful and quite warm ,
more than a few visitors were lured into the waters.
After a picnic lunch perched upon a weathered stump of a tree,
admiring works of art left behind...
we spent the afternoon being reminded that...
 in Scotland...
as we walked hand in hand,
'whispering secrets over time blown sands'.

Happy Tuesday.
