"When I die Dublin will be written in my heart." ~ James Joyce

You may have noticed that our travels are heavily orchestrated around food and I would have to admit that I put more pre-trip research into restaurants than any other event.
We leave wiggle room for discoveries of our own but always enjoy a few of the newer stars.

Our first night in Dublin the pubs were lively...
on account of the pending rugby match...
and on the seasoned advice of our host back at Number 31 we headed over to the ideally named...
for our first...
Guinness, followed by a relaxing dinner upstairs...
at The Sussex where we had the most exciting Sticky Toffee Pudding using figs in place of dates.  The figs added a new crunchy dimension to an already addictive dessert.

We looked no further than the quaint dining porch at Number 31 for our breakfast each morning because its their thing.
Trust me on this.

However,
for a late lunch we went in search of...
on the advice of From China Village.
I appreciate her taking the time to respond to my query about something that would satisfy
'the foodie' traveling with us.

Getting there was no easy endeavor
and by the time we walked through the door
our expectations had risen above the clouds.
Mainly because this restaurant seemed to be a secret...
which only increased our fervent search.
All I can say...
is perserverance does pay off.

Not only is Skinflint, whose very name means one who is reluctant to spend money, one of the coolest eating establishments ever...
yes that table is a repurposed door of some dental department somewhere...

the food is exceptional.
Beetroot caviar was first up...
followed by a pizza, their speciality,
house salad, which that day was topped with butternut squash, chicken and perfectly moistened with their homemade dressing,
and finished off with the richest, chocolatiest mousse...
all shared to complete satisfaction.

One of my final critiques of any restaurant...
the WC...
passed and impressed with flying colors.
The hallway to the toilets...

was plain ole plywood imprinted with
although the friendly waitperson said the photo was placed on the wall and sponged over with some type of liquid.
Not sure how to search for that online though.

Definitly a shining light on the food front in Dublin...
and I hope Skinflint remains
the low-key 'secret' that is was that day.
Well worth the adventure!

Our dinner that night was enjoyable for any entirely different reason.
After deciding we wanted Asian...
we ended up at...

Chai Yo, which serves both Chinese and Japanese food.
The food was good but the entertainment...
Chai Yo website

put it on the list for repeat visits.
If you are in Dublin and happen to be celebrating
a birthday or other event,
I strongly recommend Chai Yo
to enjoy the singing waiters and chefs...

belting out the usual Happy Birthday,
and many other favorites.
They are actually quite talented.

Ireland is a beautiful country and we saw a limited area, but will return for more exploring.

I hope you are able to get out and explore this weekend!
