"The word ‘tattoo’ comes from the closing-time cry in the inns in the Low Countries during the 17th and 18th centuries - ‘Doe den tap toe’ (‘Turn off the taps’)." ~edintattoo.co.uk

Delighting visitors to Edinburgh since 1950...
with the castle as its majestic backdrop...
 is not to be missed.
The long walk up the Royal Mile to the castle,
with 9,000 of my newest friends from around the world...
became even more exciting when the massive stands surrounding the castle esplanade for a month...
was within reach.

Oddly enough,
Fringe was always on my radar...
and arrangements have been made for months.
However, for some reason...
until Ren Man mentioned his interest in going...
I had not thought much of The Tattoo, other than the funny name, and would have gone throughout life without experiencing this powerful event...
the crescendoing sound as...
members of the Massed Pipes and Drums and the Massed Military Band,
filling the esplanade to kick off a special tribute to
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee.

Of course, by the time I started searching for tickets...
there were none available through the normal channels on the website.
We very well could have remained empty handed if not for...
who impressively had tickets in my hand within two days.
Add that link to my little box of tricks, and please stop by tomorrow for more photos.

Happy Tuesday.
