Even though...
is not the easiest island to get to from Bangkok,
it is my favorite for all of the reasons listed above.
After a one hour flight,
the adventure continues by car
to a ferry terminal where a woman with a monkey on her shoulder
will happily sell you snacks for the journey across to the other side.
You then travel a bit further to board an even smaller ferry,
soon to be replaced by the massive bridge still under construction.
Our two and a half hour journey...
ended at the perfectly located Lanta Castaway Beach Resort...
where everything you need for a relaxing day at the beach...
and a ring side view...
Meanwhile, as the sun bids farewell...
the guests coax themselves out of their beach chairs...
for a quick ramble to the beachfront bar...
where the 'low-key groove' continues.
If all of this is not enough to entice you to visit...
maybe the unforgetable fish tacos will do the trick.
Quite possibly the best TexMex outside of Texas!
Another bonus is the convenient onsight dive shop,
Dive & Relax,
however, they do not have snorkeling trips out to Koh Rok...
so we traveled further down the island to Lanta Dream & Paradise...
and crew of two were waiting
to guide us across the Andaman Sea.
In the distance, like snails,
fishermen trolled slowly in every direction...
as we made the one hour journey...
for a full day of island exploring.
Temptation won out...
and was much more fun than looking for lizards.
La-la-la-la-la!
Mother...
really?
We stopped at two different locations for snorkeling
and a swim with the amazing world below.
We were joined by many hermit crabs
who appeared to be having a convention...
on the other side of Koh Rok...
where we enjoyed a tasty Thai picnic...
followed by ice cold coconut water...
and of course, the freshest of fresh coconut meat.
With plenty of time to chill...
we soaked up beautiful Koh Rok
