"It is an elegant well built town. It stands on the confluence of 2 large waters and when the tide is full is seated on a peninsula. It is a town of great antiquity and still preserves its respectable appendages of ancient walls and gates. The country around is beautiful." ~ John Gilpin, in 1775

With half of the walls,
thirteen of the original towers...
and six of the original gates still standing,

the medieval stones offer a tactile connection with the history of Southampton.
Bargate was the main point of entry from the North and at one time housed the jail in the top floor.
And then there is our little inn...
built into these ancient walls...
seemlessly.

Happy Thursday.
