"To look backward for a while is to refresh the eye, to restore it, and to render it the more fit for its prime function of looking forward." ~Margaret Fairless Barber, The Roadmender

Excitement abounded yesterday...
as the doorbell rang...
and my first box of fresh produce arrived...
from an 18 acre organic farm...
in nearby Newmachar.
is now in its 20th year!

The most exciting part of the box scheme...
aside from getting fresh kale...
which is difficult to find in the supermarkets...
is getting the chance to try new vegetables...
that are not familiar to us.

With this delivery...
we were introduced to kohlrabi...

sometimes referred to as the German turnip...
closely related to the rutabaga, or swede...
as it is referred to here in the UK.

With those two ingredients in mind...
I searched Epicurious...
for a recipe...
and of course found a yummy introduction...
to the root vegetable...
kohlrabi...
combined with one of our faves...
kale.

or on the tab above for the link to the recipe.
 Your taste buds
 will thank you!

As this weekend arrives...
memories will be brought down from the musty attic,
of that dreadful day,
 America was tragically faced
with the reality that we are no safer
than the rest of the world...
from fear and hate.

My thoughts and prayers...
are with the friends and family members
who were left behind on
September 11, 2001,
and a country who is still trying
to pick up the pieces of our broken dream...
10 years later.

On a lighter note...

even this fashion minded canine in Malibu knows...
there are brighter days ahead!!!

Happy Friday!
