I don't know about you...
but my travel tends to revolve around food and drink...
so as a trip is planned...
much thought goes in to where we will be...
around snack time...
lunch time...
coffee time...
and dinnertime!
Perhaps it is my rebellion to my childhood...
when my father's idea of a road trip...
was how fast and efficiently we could make it...
from point A to point B.
There was begging involved in any unplanned stop.
Well...
maybe it wasn't that bad!
Our agenda for the second day of our road trip through the Highlands...

Perhaps it is my rebellion to my childhood...
when my father's idea of a road trip...
was how fast and efficiently we could make it...
from point A to point B.
There was begging involved in any unplanned stop.
Well...
maybe it wasn't that bad!
Our agenda for the second day of our road trip through the Highlands...
was greatly dictated by the weather...
since the final destination was an outdoor event.
The rain attacked and retreated like the waves at the beach...
with snippets of sun in between.
No visit to Scotland's Highlands would be complete...
without a visit...
to a Scotch Whiskey Distillery...
and Tomatin just happened to be located along our path...
when the sun was shining brightly...
so we paid a visit to not only a distillery...
but also a community.
Tomatin is one of the few remaining distilleries that offers housing to its employees. Around twenty five families live on the 140 acre estate.
“The water was not fit to drink. To make it palatable, we had to drink whisky. By diligent effort, I learnt to like it.”
Sir Winston Churchill
One of the best known exports of Scotland, it is one of the UK's top five manufacturing export earners.
We were on the outskirts of the Speyside area of Scotland known for its Whiskey Trail.
Grantown on Spey is a quaint town on the River Spey...
where we discovered Audrey's...
but alas...
they were out of their famous scones...
however, Ben gave a thumbs up to the Mocha...
('The toaster place' still holds first place)...
and the Millionaire Shortbread is now one of my top five in the race to find 'The Best in Scotland.
I feel it is my duty.
As the rain continued along the main street...
we enjoyed a warm coffee...
and our goodies...
all the while wondering...
Do they toss the caber in the rain?
Please stop by tomorrow...
as we head to the Tomintoul Highland Games...
rain or shine.
