Beautiful, Beautiful Texas...where the beautiful bluebonnets grow...

Have you ever had a song written and performed in your honor?  


My hubby and I were serenaded by my two most favorite aunts in the whole wide world... and...well the timing is perfect to share...

Today, March 2nd, in 1836, Texas was declared a free and independent republic...That's 175 years ago!


Lone Star State turns 175

Also today in 2011...we are in the process of moving from this great state of Texas to Scotland and my mom's two sisters prepared a send-off in our honor...


(I have a precious picture of them singing but the server would not allow...still trying to figure that one out!)



Our tribute was composed to the tune of "Beautiful Texas", which was written by Texas Governor, W. Lee O'Daniel, who was in office 1939-1941.  He ran for office on a platform of the Ten Commandments, motherly love and patriotism.  His other claim to fame was the music industry...

The words and music of "Beautiful Texas" were provided in our Texas Goodie Bag...

 so we will be prepared when a new friend is in the mood for a song about Texas...

Of course, my aunt used a little creative license and changed the words a bit...

So true...A Texan we will always be...even though my hubby is actually a transplant, he has the heart and soul of a Texan and bleeds orange because of his lovely wife and daughter...right honey?...


Each item in our goodie bag will be displayed throughout our new home (built in 1843 but new to us!) and will be coveted by many other transplanted Texans.  I just know it! 

I am already preparing for the onslaught of requests for the Texas Tator Bag...

Because tators are a big deal in Scotland...




So you see, our thoughtful gift was beautifully presented at a momentous time for Texas and these Texans who will miss home but will return as soon as possible! 


What a treasure...family... making memories...
