"I enjoy my job because I love the chance to be an ambassador for the city." ~ Glyn Farrer interview with Clicket

With only a few hours to share one of my favorite cities with my family...
I looked no farther than Glyn, the actor turned taxi driver who keeps a Texas flag waving above his visor...
and wow...
did he deliver.
He introduced us to historical areas in and around Edinburgh...
Ravelston, Dean Village and Crammond Village...
that I had not seen and added a bit of historical background to those spots on the beaten path...
like this cemetary where an American Civil War veteran from Scotland is buried.
The Emancipation Monument is the only life-size statue of Lincoln and the only memorial to the American Civil War...
 outside of the U.S.A.
Glyn also shared his church with us...
where he attended as a young boy...
and whose beauty is many times overshadowed by St. Gile's Cathedral located on the Royal Mile.

One of the spots we visited that day requiring a bit more research...
was Lauriston Castle overlooking the Firth of Forth.  We were not able to take a look inside but the grounds are incredible.

Definitely on the list of places to return...
and maybe even enjoy a game of croquet with the Edinburgh Croquet Club.

Our day ended of course with high tea at the Prestonfield House, as mentioned last week, before heading back to the train station where we said good-bye to our tour guide/chauffeur/new friend.

An excellent way to explore the capital of Scotland.

Happy Tuesday.
