Shrove Tuesday - stems from old English word 'shrive', meaning 'confess all sins'

A few children's books have been floating in and out
of my mind recently...
like
...

and the old folktale...
The Runaway Pancake...
because instead of Fat Tuesday...
 in Scotland,
they observe Shrove Tuesday or better known as...
The original intent of Pancake Day is very similar to Fat Tuesday, indulgence before lent...
a chance to clear out your cupboard of fat, butter and eggs, which were forbidden during the season.

Although the grocery stores missed that memo
and have special
displays dedicated to filling your cupboards
with more food products.

Meanwhile...
to get into the spirit...
the Guardian has a wee quiz to test your memory of those children's books mentioned above and more.

And after acing the quiz...
your only decision is what type of pancake you will make for the family tomorrow morning.

These lovely blueberry beauties
from Smitten Kitchen
have my vote.
She even gives a few pancake tips for the perfect flapjack.

Those of you living in the U.S.A. may have a much needed day off for Presidents Day...
either way...
enjoy your Monday.
