"Amsterdam's soil is so swampy that the city had to be built on long wooden poles that were driven into the ground. One of the Amsterdam facts that every Dutch school child had to learn by heart, is that the Royal Palace at the Dam Square was built on over 13,569 poles." ~ www.Amsterdam-Advisor.com

Amsterdam by foot...
is every bit as captivating...
as it is by boat.
We spent most of our precious moments...
blissfully window shopping...
up and down...
what are known as...
De Negen Straatjes, The Nine Little Streets...
filled with cafes, vintage shops, boutiques,
and specialty shops.
Ignoring the advice of many...
to buy tickets in advance...
this is as close as we got.

Much to my dismay, as well,
we did not make it to the Van Gogh Museum...
however...
current affairs demand a mention...
in light of the recent hoopla surrounding his death.
Was it suicide or an accidental shooting...
as claimed in a new biography...
and how will the new film portray his death?

Meanwhile...
as the daylight hours...
were melting away...
I began to add up...
 just how many days...
I will need to sufficiently experience...
this remarkable city.

Drop by for a visit tomorrow...
as we take a peek at the nightlife of Amsterdam.
