“It's a fabulous place [Buckingham Palace], I'll never forget it...” ~ John McEnroe

When I heard the queen was spending some time in Scotland...
roughing it in Balmoral Castle...

I was surprised to learn that...
while the royal family is away...
ordinary people like me can walk through the stately rooms of Buckingham Palace...
and we were in London...
needless to say...
we decided to 'carpe diem'...
and felt it our duty as educators...
to check it out.

Now, unfortunately...
photography was not allowed inside the palace...
however, I can piece together the highlights.

You can see some photographs...
of what we saw up close and personal...
close enough to touch even...
if the added entertainment of a royal arrest had been on our list...
here at The Staterooms, Buckingham Palace .

Of course...
while waiting... waiting... waiting for our personal tour...
it seems many others were aware of this personal opportunity as well...
the gift shop was conveniently placed next to the entrance.

I could not resist a few gifts...
for my royal family and friends...
meanwhile...
from the comfort of your home...
you can shop for yourself...
at the Royal Collection Shop.

Walking through the side door to the main entryway...
my eyes were extremely occupied...
with the walls, the ceiling, the floor, the staircase,
stopping to turn around...
to see an even more impressive view behind me.

Everything was on such a large scale...
it reminded me of Texas!!!

When I met up with Ren Man later...
I did mention that there were a few decorating tips...
that would lend themselves to our humble abode in Texas.

You can probably see his eyes rolling as he smiled...
knowingly...
that I was only half kidding.

'The Dress' was there in all its amazingness...
and thoughtfulness...
true craftsmanship.

The creative hours spent making a dress not only special for the bride...
but also a country...
incorporated the flowers of England, Wales, N. Ireland and Scotland...
into the lace.

It is beautiful on the bride above...
a work of art...
on display in Buckingham Palace.

Along with paintings and sculpture collected for hundreds of years...
there was also a display of the Royal Faberge'...

with works collected by many generations of the Royal Family.

There was no sense of urgency to move us along...
we could walk around at our own pace...
at our leisure...
lingering like a true commoner amongst royalty.

Now that I think of it...
one wonders how they make sure everyone has left for the day.

We did eventually make our way to the gardens...
where a very convenient...
hopefully temporary...
cafe was overlooking the lovely grounds...

to enjoy with a cup of tea.

The paths throughout the 40 acres of gardens on the estate are immense...

filled with plants from all over the world...
and home to this guy who has no idea he is sitting on a royal branch.
