"If one does not know to which port one is sailing, no wind is favorable." Lucius Annaeus Seneca

With Ren Man being a sailor and all...
he had the perfect solution for cover...
in our garden...
when it rains and we want to be outside...
sitting on the lawn...
visiting with our guests.
He found an old sail online...
mailed a check to Wales on Thursday...
and we had it in our house the following Wednesday.
You gotta love the Royal Mail!

He lived up to his nickname of Renaissance Man...
when he calculated...
and lassoed a small metal bracket sticking out of the granite wall of our home...
in one toss of the rope.
Impressive...
even without a cowboy hat!!!
He has never had any lasso lessons either, although he is a skilled knot tie-er.

Fortunately, we did not need it for our 4th of July BBQ...
but our guests can mingle outside regardless of rain...
or shine at future celebrations.

This love of sailing...
led us to the

in the quaint coastal town of Portsoy...
which was saved by the beautiful weather this year...
following a few years of rain and low ticket sales.

We spent the day...
amazed at the artistry involved...
in traditional crafts made by hand...
with ingenuity...
and patience...
instead of machines.

Sending succulent, smoky smells your way!

The wee ones had their own transportation...
but we meandered throughout the festival on foot...
and found the perfect spot to enjoy teatime,
beckoned in by the pirate at Coffee Cove...
of Beggars Belief...
and were obliged to try their shortbread as well.
We admired incredible artwork like this knitted woolen wall hanging...
and of course couldn't pass up this sailboat...
made of driftwood by Trista McGarvey.

Our day in Portsoy ended with a visit to...
and a walk around Loch Soy...
to savor our ice cream cone...
and the picturesque town of Portsoy.
