“I wonder anybody does anything at Oxford but dream and remember, the place is so beautiful. One almost expects the people to sing instead of speaking. It is all . . . like an opera.” ~ William Butler Yeats

The Foodie and I took the slow, leisurely train to London and made a side trip to Oxford...
before meeting up with the rest of the fam back in London...
and as we walked through the beautiful grounds of Christ Church...

which is one of the largest colleges in the University of Oxford...
we learned that Alice in Wonderland was written by Charles Dodgson, who while a student at the college was given the name Lewis Carroll by his editor of the student paper.  He later became a Math lecturer at the college.
While walking through the peaceful campus...
I found myself looking for inspirations for the story about Alice...
and found a shop across the street from Christ Church...
Alice in Oxford, which Alice refers to in "Through the Looking Glass, as "...the very queerest shop I ever saw."
Beyond the campus...
the town itself was picturesque...
and easy to understand why C.S. Lewis chose to live most of his adult life here...
as a student, professor of literature,
author of the Narnia books...
where he became a Christian.

"A man can no more diminish God's glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, 'darkness' on the walls of his cell." C. S. Lewis

A second, longer visit is on the list to walk the paths...
of some of his old stomping grounds.

My son, The Editor and I are off to discover Glasgow before he heads back to sunny California.

I will be sharing some of his fabulous photos and videos from our London trip next week...
but for now...

have a wow-filled week-end!
